How my journey began

Hasaan Rashid is a dedicated husband and father with three children who have benefited from the public school system. With over two decades of involvement in church ministry at Mt. Paran and active membership in Alpha Phi Alpha, Hasaan has engaged closely with Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) and the Boys and Girls Club. His professional journey includes nearly twenty years in outside sales within the water and sewer industry, contributing to major projects like the Purple Line and I-69 expansion. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from Indiana State University.

Beyond his career, Hasaan is also a philanthropist, having organized the Brendon Park music festival, which awarded scholarships to graduating seniors. His approach to problem-solving emphasizes listening to diverse viewpoints and basing solutions on critical thinking and data, free from personal agendas. Although still familiarizing himself with the various IPS school models, he advocates for sharing best practices and fostering parental engagement to ensure no regression across different educational models.

Recognizing the severe literacy crisis in Marion County, Hasaan prioritizes mandatory reading programs, partnerships with local libraries, and leveraging college students as tutors to foster a culture of reading. While he acknowledges a need to deepen his understanding of IPS funding and curriculum decisions, he is committed to supporting school closures only under conditions of chronic underperformance and fiscal irresponsibility. Hasaan envisions an IPS where all students receive a top-tier education, the district achieves financial stability, teachers are well-compensated, and robust pre-K and literacy programs are in place to make reading a lifestyle for families.

“As a dedicated father and long-time advocate for our community, I’m committed to ensuring IPS offers every student access to high-quality education and the resources they need to thrive.”
